Master’s in Education and Social Justice

This graduate program offers opportunities to explore the complex links between education and social justice, focusing on current research, educational policy, and societal issues. Students will reflect on ways to address problems impacting human rights, the environment, and educational systems. Students pursuing this program will have several opportunities to integrate theory and practice in various learning contexts. Students will hone their skills to advocate for educational systems and societal changes by engaging with organizations focused on addressing major social issues. This program is designed for those who are committed—or aspire to commit to—education, community organizing, and social change.

Completing this graduate program leads to a Master of Arts degree in Education and Social Justice.

Program Learning Outcomes

Explain how environmental problems unequally impact social groups.
Apply academic conventions required for graduate written products and scholarly presentations.
Analyze the articulation between migration and human rights.
Examine historical and contemporary systems of privilege and oppression, with special attention to the intersection of race, class, gender, and sexuality.
Assess the relationships between education policy and social justice issues.
Evaluate strategies of social justice advocacy and community organizing.
Compose a reflective report on education and social justice that articulates theory and field experience.

For institutional charges of one thousand dollars ($1,000) or less, the assessment is zero dollars ($0).

Notice to Prospective Degree Program Students

The Bureau provisionally approves this institution for Private Postsecondary Education to offer degree programs. To continue to offer this degree program, this institution must meet the following requirements:

Become institutionally accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education, with the scope of the accreditation covering at least one degree program.
Achieve accreditation candidacy or pre-accreditation, as defined in regulations, by October 25, 2024, and full accreditation by October 25, 2027. If this institution stops pursuing accreditation, the following will happen:

The institution must stop all enrollment in its degree programs and
Provide a teach-out to finish the educational program or provide a refund.

An institution that fails to comply with accreditation requirements by the required dates shall have its approval to offer degree programs automatically suspended.
