Single Subject

Program

This is a two-year course of study. Students earn a Preliminary Single Subject Credential that allows them to teach middle or high school students in grades 6-12. To advance to the District Intern Program, candidate must:

1. Demonstrate subject matter competency:

Pass the California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) OR
Obtain Subject Matter Equivalency Letter

2. Successfully complete Pre-Service with a “B” or higher

3. Obtain positive faculty recommendations

4. Participate in field experience

5. Secure full-time teaching contract with a participating school or school district, teaching at least 60% in subject area
Admissions

District Intern candidates must complete all 10 Pre-Service admissions requirements

1. Admission Application
2. Official transcripts with bachelors degree posted
3. Pass California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST)
4. One page resume
5. One page personal statement regarding your motivation for entering the teaching profession, and your goals for promoting student academic achievement
6. Three professional recommendations
Must be submitted using FSE’s recommendation form, including an original signature from the recommender
7. $60 non-refundable application fee (Early Bird – March 5th), $75 non-refundable application fee (Regular – April 1st), or $100 non-refundable application fee (Late – April 30th)
8. Proof of passing a collegiate level course or examination in the U.S. Constitution www.usconstitutionexam.com
9. Certificate of Clearance issued by California Commission on Teacher Credentialing with no convictions www.ctc.ca.gov
10. Successful interview with FSE admission panel
Tuition & Fees


Application Fee: $60 (Early Bird), $75 (Regular), or $100 (Late)

Pre-Service Tuition: $1,500

$500 non-refundable payment
Plus TWO Electronic Funds Transfer payments of $500


Single Subject Tuition: $6,300 per year for two years

$700 per month for 18 months
