Fortune School of Education Launches a Master’s Degree Program in Education and Social Justice

SACRAMENTO, CA, March 15, 2023 -- Today, the Fortune School of Education announced the launch of a Master’s Program in Education and Social Justice. The new graduate program offers opportunities to explore the complex links between education and social justice, focusing on current research, educational policy, and societal issues.

“This is a monumental moment for the Fortune School of Education with our development of a Master’s Program in Education and Social Justice. This program will help prepare students to affect change in our communities, state, and across the nation by exploring solutions to major social issues that benefit today’s and future generations of youth and adults,” said Dr. Margaret Fortune, President/CEO of Fortune School. “Launching our first degree-granting program is a major step toward fulfilling our vision of creating a Black College on the West Coast.”

Students in the graduate school program will reflect on ways to address problems impacting human rights, the environment, and education. In addition of thoroughly exploring these topics, students will hone their advocacy skills by engaging with organizations focused on addressing major social issues. This program is designed for those who are committed—or aspire to commit to—education, community organizing, and social change.

“Our decision to launch a Master’s in Education and Social Justice reflects our commitment to citizenship in a democratic society. It also reflects our understanding of educators’ and community leaders’ needs in addressing today’s issues,” said Dr. Roque Neto, Dean at Fortune School of Education.
