Education Specialist

Admissions Criteria

This is a two-year course of study. Students earn a Preliminary Education Specialist Credential for Mild to Moderate Support Needs, allowing them to teach grades K-12. To advance to the District Intern Program, candidate must:
 
  • Demonstrate subject matter competency:

        • Completion of a subject matter program approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (Commission)
        • Passage of a subject matter examination approved by the Commission
        • Completion of coursework at one or more regionally accredited institutions of higher education that addresses each of the domains of the subject matter requirements adopted by the Commission in the content area of the credential being sought
        • Completion of a baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education, as specified; or,
        • A combination of the methods described in (i), (ii), and (iii) that meets or exceeds the domains of the subject matter requirements adopted by the Commission.

     

  • Successfully complete Pre-Service with a “B” or higher

  • Obtain positive faculty recommendations

  • Participate in-field experience

  • Secure a full-time teaching contract with a participating school or school district, teaching at least 50% in the subject area
