School Leadership Program

Fortune School of Education is dedicated to admitting students who demonstrate academic excellence and show promise for futures in education. We are equity- and diversity-minded but remain selective as an institution. Admissions decisions are made by the admissions committee based on the strength of the applicant’s past academic performance, the admissions interview, their relevant work experience, and their preparation in the proposed field of study. Those interested in attending Fortune must submit an application with the required fee, a curriculum vitae or resume, transcripts from all previous coursework, recommendations, and any other requested materials as listed on the website and the Catalog. Applications are screened by our staff, and those selected for further consideration are invited to an interview with a panel comprising members of our faculty and staff. Those who receive approval from the majority of the panel will be invited to enroll in the program to which they applied.

Each program has its own eligibility criteria and admission requirements, which can be found on our website and in the Catalog.

The School Leadership Program focuses on producing leaders who will develop and lead high-quality schools in high-need areas. This one-year, intensive leadership program is open to educators who want to earn a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential. Participants will be under the guidance of Fortune School of Education faculty with deep expertise in educational leadership, including charter school development and operations. Candidates are grouped into cohorts and supported by FSE’s Higher Education Department, Instructors, and Coach.

Candidates complete 200 hours of coursework and field supervision. These hours also include the educational leadership project, one of the program's culminating assessments. Additionally, candidates are required to pass the three cycles of the California Administrator Performance Assessment (CalAPA). Candidate recommendation for a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential or a Certificate of Eligibility once the requirements are satisfied.

Those who have secured an administrative position, and can demonstrate it through the completion of form CL777 by the employing agency, are recommended for a Preliminary Credential. Those who have not secured an administrative position recommendation is for a Certificate of Eligibility. Once an administrative position is secured, the Certificate is upgradeable to a Preliminary Credential.
